Manaslu region
Manaslu region is located in Western Nepal and was opened to trekkers only in 1991. But lots of mountaineering expedition teams had access for long time. Until today this region is more frequented by Japanese trekkers and Manaslu is known as Japanese mountain since large number of climbers who have successfully summitted Manaslu are Japanese. This area is still restricted to a limited number of groups and only organized trekkers in groups can trek in this area. The book "Honey Hunters of Nepal" by Eric Valli & Dianne Summers gives good information about this region. Due to the restricted visitors the trekking permit is in comparison to Annapurna, Langtang and Everest quite high. Manaslu region is very remote and rescue facility is very difficult.
Nowadays more and more tea houses and lodges are built and opened in Manaslu area. Thus a simple lodge trekking with basic rooms and local food is also possible.
Tsum Valley
The lost valley is located in Northern Nepal and was opened to trekkers only in 2007. Tsum Valley is a very isolated and remote place, in which the Tibetan culture and traditions are still alive. During the trekking through this area one can discover the ancient Buddhist monasteries and the Tibetan way of life.
